Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-Rich Plasma

(PRP)

In recent years, doctors have learned that the body has the ability to heal itself. PRP therapy is a treatment method that can harness those abilities and amplify the natural growth factors your body uses to heal tissue. Athletes sometimes have PRP to speed up the healing of sports injuries. PRP has also been used for hair loss, cosmetic surgery, and osteoarthritis.

Health Issues That Can Be Treated are:

  • Hair growth

  • Inflammation reduction

  • Chronic Tendon Injuries

  • Acute Ligament and Muscle Injuries

The effectiveness of PRP therapy can vary. Factors that can influence the effectiveness of PRP treatment include:

  • The area of the body being treated

  • The overall health of the patient

  • Whether the injury is acute (such as from a fall) or chronic (an injury developing over time)

As injecting PRP involves using a person’s own platelets, they do not usually experience any adverse reactions to the injections. However, it is possible that a person may have irritation, pain, or bleeding related to the injection site.

Most people can resume their normal activities almost immediately after having a PRP injection. The average time from blood-drawing to the injection itself is about half-an-hour.
